Nominate Speaker

Delegate Speakers play a significant role in the Assembly. TEENNATION provides a platform for young leaders to share their impactful work, personal experiences, views and opinions Assembly attendees and the watching world.

Each Speaker is personally introduced by a Counselor before delivering a five minute speech during one of the five Plenary Sessions. The Plenary Sessions are the foundations from which all content at the Assembly is developed. The 2019 topics were arrived at following a year-long consultation process with Ambassadors and incoming delegates in our global network

Speaking at #TGA2019

TGA isn’t a typical conference. The TGA audience has high expectations of the speakers; the TGA speaker team works with speakers well in advance of the conference to help shape a presentation that will succeed on the TGA stage. TGA is the place to give the talk of your life to save Africa.

Each TGA and TEENNATION conference features more than 50 of the Africa’s most innovative and influential teen speakers. If you know someone who belongs on the TGA stage, or if you belong there yourself, we want to hear from you! Please use our speaker recommendation form. An ideal candidate should have the following:

Expertise and Experience

  • Ability to raise financial support for travel to and from #TeenAssembly2019 Nairobi, Kenya.

  • Straightforward with a good reputation within and outside his/her community.

  • Have proven experience of playing an active role towards social action, and/or sustainable development solutions that impact Africa.

  • Have knowledge of the impact of your topic on teens in Africa, and learned thoughts and ideas on possible future action or solutions.

Special Achievements

  • The Teen General Assembly receives many outstanding delegates, candidates for a speaking role should have unique and innovative contributions to his/her community, above and beyond regular expectations.

Public Speaking and Writing Skills

  • Have charisma and exceptional public speaking skills.

  • Ability to communicate complex issues and solutions both in writing and to a live audience.

  • Excellent writing skills, and experience in drafting up formal documents, plans or policy recommendations

At TGA, we search year-round for presenters who will inform and inspire, surprise and delight. Our presenters are trusted teen (13 – 19) voices and convention-breaking mavericks, icons and geniuses.

Collectively, TGA speakers have won every major prize awarded for excellence. TGA also seeks out emerging artists, scientists and thinkers, introducing them to the TGA community well before they hit the mainstream.

If you know someone who belongs on our roster, or if you belong there yourself, we want to hear from you! Please use our speaker recommendation form, and tell us why this person would be well-matched to the TGA stage.

Multiple nominations for the same person won’t influence the speaker selection team in any way. We review every nomination that comes in, and it only takes one.

Speaker Nomination FAQ.

Use our speaker recommendation form, and fill in as much information as you can. This form goes directly to our speaker selection team.

You ask for their email address, and I don’t know it.
Please do! Just let us know how you’ve heard about this person, and why you think they should speak at TGA.

No. Read more about partnering with TGA. Sponsoring TGA has many benefits, but a guaranteed speaking slot is not one of them.

We accept nominations all the time. It’s best to get your suggestions to us as early as possible, so we can research them carefully and make the best decision on the speaker roster.

We strictly enforce the clock for all speakers. TGA is the place to condense your ideas into a compelling 18-minute talk that communicates your best ideas. We’ve found that a carefully prepared presentation of this length can have astonishing impact.

TGA does not pay speakers or cover travel costs. We do, of course, provide excellent accommodation — as well as a covetable pass to all five days of TGA. Most speakers stay for the whole conference, soaking up the talks and connecting with other attendees. Other benefits include pre-conference coaching and training, special events for networking, the gift bag, and a web archive of the full Assembly. We are committed to creating an experience that’s tremendously fulfilling and beneficial on all sides.

An additional benefit of speaking at TED is that your presentation may become a TED Talk, part of our beautifully produced, broadcast-quality video series. Not all talks given on the TED stage will automatically become online TED Talks, but we hope most do.

Never has there been such weighty responsibility on the shoulders of young people. Never has there been the influence in the hands of young people like the influence they carry now. But for Africa to reap the dividends she has longed for, it is up to our generation to make sure that influence is channelled correctly and directed towards relevant issues that affect not only ourselves but generations after us. This can only be achieved if we come together as young people and begin to address the challenges before us as a continent.
